Loading....

This is too funny not to share (and it's one of those funny things I never want to forget)! It was one of those "must write it down" moments....you know what I'm talking about!

Reeves lost his third tooth a few weeks ago.....

....and we've been waiting to see the new tooth that will take it's place. This morning after he brushed his teeth, he came running into the kitchen.

"Hey, mom!," he screamed.

"What buddy?," I asked.

"LOOK," he exclaimed...and with a giggle in his voice he pointed to the new little tooth that was just breaking threw and proclaimed....

"It's LOADING!"

....get it? How clever! He's a kid after my own "techno-savvy" heart!

Sisters

I got an amazing email from one of my sisters tonight. I wasn't expecting it....just like I wasn't expecting to write this little blog post. It hit me from nowhere, like a perfect surprise. I cried and I swelled with joy....with awe and with thanksgiving. I wanted to call everyone I knew and tell them how blessed it is to be a sister. How blessed their girls are to have each other! How amazing it will be for my own little girls to one day exchange emails that make the other half of their heart cry tears of joy and blessedness. Is that a word? Blessedness....

It is a word in my world. I love you sweet Rach and sweet Bec. I love you for being there. It doesn't matter how many fights we had over shampoo or spoiled Christmas mornings or who was going to drive to school. It doesn't matter that we drove each other crazy with the way we chewed our cereal. We loved and we love and we will always be there to love a little more. No matter how far apart we are (...in miles that is).

Oh, how blessed I am to have my sisters. I love you so, so much!

Today's Top Five

1. Reeves had a mini meltdown over his hair this morning. I don't get how a kid with the most amazing hair EVER could possibly have such a meltdown. I also don't get that my boy cares this much about his appearance. Guess I don't know much about raising boys!

2. I found that a bowl of soup and a pile of animal bracelets can entertain a 2 year old for quite a while. Today was the best restaurant outing Greer has had in a while. I mean, she didn't even toss her yogurt all over anyone! What an awesome visit with precious friends!

3. My sweet Mama had a birthday today! I love her more than she will ever know. And I don't tell her that enough.

4. The Pied Piper is a freaky, messed up tale. Just so you know.

5. Did I mention that I love my baby girl, Greer? She lights up our life! It was a big day on the "bye, bye birthmark" front: We have our Duke appointment scheduled....WOOOHOOOO! We'll be heading up to NC for her next laser treatment in March. More details on that soon, promise! Here is our little Bama Fan in action!

THIS stage....yep, I love it!

(before you read any further, scroll down and pause my music playlist at the bottom of the page)

Greer has become pretty talkative lately. Sometimes I wonder if she'll ever quit talking....I'd forgotten about this stage. You know....

THIS stage....

Happy Birthday Bubba!....

....no, not THAT Bubba! MY Bubba!

Today is my (maternal) grandmother's birthday. I don't really know how old she is today....I have sadly lost count (does that make me a terrible granddaughter?), but she is such an amazing treasure to me. All of my grandparents are. ALL of them are still living.....vibrantly living. In the same little town. In their own little homes. ALL 4 of them. Happily married. Active and strong. Living life. Still loving me. Adoring my children.

I miss them all. I need to visit more, but life gets crazy. I don't want to wear them out by inundating them with my wild crew. We're a bit too much to handle! But one day soon I hope to make the short drive out to the little country town that holds so many people that hold my heart. How blessed to have them all still influencing my life and the life of my children? Amazing!!!

Happy birthday, Bubba! I love you more than you will ever know, and your impact on my life is etched on my soul. I miss you. I miss Papa. I wish I could spend more days with you both. Our phone conversations make me laugh! I promise to call more. I promise to call all of you more.

I hope Nana and Grandaddy read this post....yes, they have internet and they read my blog! I missed wishing them Happy Anniversary here on my blog....60 YEARS this past fall!!! We all had a wonderful time celebrating with them...so blessed to have them in our life. I have such a colorful, loving, AMAZING family! Isn't that incredible?! May my own marriage be just as strong and long. I love you sooooo much!

Have I mentioned that I love my people!?

The Business of Today

After a crazy three day weekend, Greer and I are spending the day at home catching up on all the "stuff" that gets forgotten when the business is playtime. Laundry, clutter, dishes, toys strewn here and there, phone calls, paper stacks, emails....the stuff I want to hide in a closet and forget about. But it catches up with me eventually and I must face the reality of a busy life with 3 young children and a husband and well, you know. I've made a big dent, and I can't believe that the bus will be turning around in the cul-de-sac in about 20 minutes.....where has my day gone?

I haven't really been reading blogs lately. My own blog posting has taken a back seat, too, but I'm writing posts as I feel lead and it feels really good. Sometimes all I feel like doing is posting the pictures so I won't forget about them. I realized that the pressure to blog was stealing my joy in sharing my heart....that's not what it was started for. I miss some of my faithful blogging friends, and I hope to catch up with them soon. Today I decided to read what Sherri Burgess is writing out in the blogosphere, and it reminded me how much I get from reading the hearts of wonderful women of faith. Today is a tough day for the Burgess family....a day I will never forget. Here is my post from last year on this day.

Here is her latest post.

Pray for her. Pray for them.

....and my theme for the week:

Love on your people!

The New Year so Far....

My New Years Resolution (well, one of them anyway) is to be more deliberate with my time and more focused on relationships. The relationships that really matter to me. Jesus, family, beloved friends....the most important stuff of life. So that's what I've been busy doing.

I have amazing people around me. People who love me and make me think. They make me laugh and they make me cry. They make me better and they challenge me to grow.

I'm enjoying my kids more than I ever have. I had an amazing Christmastime with my family. I can't wait to see what this new year brings...

This past weekend was amazing! Greer turned 2 on Sunday. TWO! We had a "staycation" at the local resort....what an amazing little treasure to have this lovely place right down the road. Good food, friends, swimming in the middle of the coldest winter Alabama has ever seen. Adjoining rooms with our dear, sweet friends. We topped it off with a decadent breakfast at the fancy hotel restaurant and made it to church just in time for some unbelievable worship.....what could be better!?

I can hardly believe how fast the past 2 years have gone....the past 10 years for that matter!!! Chris and I will have our 10th anniversary this March. It's like I blinked and it is gone.

I shouldn't say gone. That sounds so negative. I have a million pictures and stories imbedded in my soul from the past 10 years. The stuff of a wonderful life with my beloved family. I can wish that my picture albums were all filled up or that my home movies were all loaded on the hard drive, but all those memories are with me everywhere I go. I am thankful for how they shape me and move me and make me happy....

....but I digress. It's been a sentimental day for me!

Check out this picture that I posted as my profile pic on Facebook (did you know it's "throwback" week)....

Any guesses?!

P.S. I totally hope you'll post a throwback picture on your Facebook page! It has been so fun seeing my friends way back when!!!

A whole lot of random...

...coming your way! No pictures for this first post of 2010, but I promise to dig up a few very soon....we've had a blast over the past 2 weeks! Now to catch you up and give you a giggle...

School's out till tomorrow, and it's freakin' freezin'! I mean seriously cold for these parts. We may even see the white stuff by the end of the week! I would really appreciate a snow day Friday since my kiddos probably won't make it to school before lunchtime anyway. Seems we have a rather important obligation this Thursday night! Can I hear a Rooooollllll Tide, Roll?!

My kids almost ended up at school today cause it seems I was a little confused about the actual "post holiday return date". Wouldn't it make since to start back on a Monday? Turns out that today was a teacher work day....I suppose they need to ease back in to the whole school routine, too!

So, we partied hard for 2 weeks, and I had a full "work weekend" to start the new year. Just so you know.....

....I really do love my job. If only for the entertainment value!

When I work in the maternity ER, one of our duties is to answer phone calls from the patients. Many of the calls are legitimate and straight-forward. A handful of them are little pearls meant to keep us on our toes and to give us a little chuckle during a long, hard shift! I thought you might get a kick out of a few that we got this weekend....

"How you doin'? I had my baby a couple of weeks ago.....is it OK for me to wash my hair?" Me, "Yes, honey, that's an old wives tale....PLEASE wash your hair!"

"Hey, how you doin'? I really want to have a cup of hot tea, is that OK, or will it burn my baby?" Me, "No, honey, it will NOT burn your baby. It isn't growing in your stomach!"

"Is this a nurse?" (my friend Amanda took this call), "Yes ma'am, this is a nurse, how can I help you?" Patient, "how you doin'? I have a headache. Can I put a cold cloth on my head or will it give me a seizure?" Amanda....

...."seriously?"
